September 2016
Dear Mr./Mrs.,

The new Academic Year got off to a spectacular start. Pieter Elbers, KLM’s CEO, held an opening speech in which he described the tensions between newcomers to his industry and well-established companies in that sector. KLM, which has been around for more than 95 years, must make choices to remain relevant in this ever-changing field. This made for interesting subject matter for all the listeners; it was particularly informative for the many students attending the talk.

In September, we welcomed the new students to the BSc in Business Administration program and we said good-bye to our International MBA students. And while all that was happening, we celebrated Nyenrode’s seventieth anniversary with an amazing party. It didn’t exactly go by unnoticed. One matter was less apparent, but went very well: the introduction period for the new students. It was an exciting business. Both the MSc students and the BSc students had a wonderful time during their joint introduction period. However, much time and effort was spent in its organization. In the six months preceding the introduction period for the new students, there were plenty of discussions between de Bijstand, de Heeren 5, the Executive Board, all the directors of the programs involved and the Campus Dean, so that we could agree on, and coordinate, everything we wanted to do in that period. Agreeing is one thing, but actually getting it done is something else all together. Thanks to the students of “de Bijstand”, and in fact the entire MSc cohort, we produced a long overdue and much needed revamped program that still included all the elements that make Nyenrode what it is.

September went out with a bang, with the official opening of a new lecture hall and the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In the Netherlands, corporate law should force directors to employ efficient leadership, required to make the “switch” necessary for achieving those UN targets, as Professor Tineke Lambooy argued in her inaugural lecture “Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Stewardship in Corporate Law” on September 21, 2016.
