May 2016
Dear Mr./Mrs.,

I’ve been told that articles at the top of a newsletter are better read than the features that follow. Nonetheless, it is worth your while to scroll through the entire newsletter because, right at the bottom, there is an announcement about a fantastic concert that is going to be held at Nyenrode and it would be a shame if you were to miss it.

My own contribution, however, is about my experiences in America. Towards the end of this year, Nyenrode starts the process of acquiring an American accreditation, AACSB, and to prepare for that, I attended a conference in Boston. The accreditation means that we will have plenty to do in the next two to three years, but it also means that the quality of the way we do business at Nyenrode will improve too.

Once I was in the USA, I wanted to see and speak to the alumni there. Everything, including a visit to the ambassador in Washington, had been carefully arranged by three absolutely great alumni, Albert van Servellen, Johan de Voogd and Jack Roepers. These three gentlemen represent AFNU, American Friends of Nyenrode University. And they truly are friends! Thanks to their efforts, I managed to visit two top-notch universities whose doors would have otherwise been closed to me and that’s exceptionally good news for our international activities and potential student exchange programs.

You can read all about in the report, but something that I found hard to express in words is their dedication to our university and the warmth with which I, as a representative of our university, was welcomed and accompanied to various places. But perhaps the photograph will present a better impression; it’s of a meeting at Jack’s house. It’s hard to describe how great the talks were and how friendly and convivial it was, but this picture of a custom-made AFNU cake speaks volumes on how much care was put into this evening.

And finally, some technical but still important news for all our business contacts: we went live with a new CRM system. Of course, CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management but in fact, it’s a database for all our contacts, i.e. our clients, students, alumni and representatives of companies with whom we do business.  Eventually, we will distribute this newsletter through that system too. We are still in the start-up stage at the moment and much still needs to be arranged, but at least you now know that this complicated ICT project – which is incredibly important for our operations – has been successfully completed.
